Pictionary is a guessing game similar to charades that uses drawing instead of acting out clues. It has been a popular party game for many years and can be modified to use in different settings. You can even play pictionary in Sunday School classes, using Bible clues. In the original game, a game board is used. You can skip the game board and just play the game to reinforce Bible lessons. Teams can earn points and even small prizes, if you'd like.

Game Rules

Players are divided into two or more teams. One player is selected to draw for the first team. The player selects a card with a word or phrase to illustrate. He is allowed one minute to draw clues that his team members can use to guess the answer. Artistic skill is not needed. Pictures simply need to represent the clue. If the team guesses the clue, the team earns a point; if not, the turn passes to the other team. Play continues for a predetermined length of time or until a team earns a certain number of points. Clue words and phrases should be chosen depending on material that has been introduced in class.

People Clues

Biblical characters can be divided between the Old Testament and New Testament. Suggestions for the Old Testament include Adam and Eve, Noah, Moses, David and Goliath, Joseph and the coat of many colors, Abraham and Isaac. New Testament people could include Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the Apostles, the Magi, King Herod and Pontius Pilate. Players should try to draw things related to the character rather than an illustration of the person.

Event Clues

Another category could be biblical events, which also can be divided between the New and Old testaments. Old Testament suggestions include the Garden of Eden, the great flood, the parting of the Red Sea, the Exodus, the slaying of Goliath and Daniel in the lion’s den. For the New Testament, include the birth of Jesus, baptism of Jesus, the story of the loaves and the fishes, the crucifixion of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus.

Word Clues

Words associated with the Bible can also be included in Pictionary clues. Simple words that have significance can be used such as flood, sacrifice, God, angels, saints, holy, altar, pray, star, temple and halo.
