Cooking fish in a bamboo steamer is not only healthy, but tastes great. There are many fish recipes for bamboo steamers that will change your mind about fish. Steaming is quick and easy and there's not even much clean up. Give it a try, and soon you will be making steamed fish for your guests. You can cook fish with the bone-in or filets in your steamer. Most fish only takes 10 minutes to cook.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fish
  • Knife
  • Cabbage leaves
  • Red pepper
  • Green onion
  • Lemon juice
  • Spices
  • Toothpicks
  • Stockpot
  1. Step 1

    Prepare the fish. Make a few cuts across the top of the fish with a sharp knife. Place the fish on a large cabbage leaf or two.

  2. Step 2

    Place finely chopped red pepper and green onion on top and then the spices that you like. Squeeze a lemon wedge over the fish.

  3. Step 3

    Wrap the fish up in the cabbage leaf and use toothpicks to keep it closed around the fish.

  4. Step 4

    Bring a large stockpot, half filled with water, to a rapid boil. Place the steamer over the pot and put on the lid.

  5. Step 5

    Steam for about 10 minutes. If the fish is more than 1 inch thick, add on a few minutes. Take the steamer off the pot and open. Your fish should be white and flaky, yet still moist. Serve.
