Things You'll Need:
- A Stove or any source of heat that can boil water
- Water
- Rag or Cloth of some kind
-
Step 1
Sycamore TreeLocate a Sycamore Tree. They usually grow near rivers. The Sycamore tree is easily spotted due to its peeling bark. Under the bark and mostly towards the top of the tree, the tree is white. The leaves of a Sycamore tree are usually really big and fan out.
-
Step 2
Gather a few handfuls of the already peeling bark from the tree and place it in a bag so it is easy to carry.
-
Step 3
Take the bark to your kitchen, or stove.
-
Step 4
Fill the pot with water and boil the water.
-
Step 5
When the water is boiling add the bark into the pot and continue to let the water simmer for about 2-3 minutes with the bark in the pot
-
Step 6
After 2-3 minutes remove the pot from the heating element and let the water cool down until it is a little on the hot side but not so hot that it will burn skin.
-
Step 7
While the water is still warm soak your rag or cloth in the water that had the bark boiled in it and then place the rag on the rash from the poison ivy and soak it for about 10 minutes.
-
Step 8
Do this twice a day until the rashes disappear. When I was a child my grandmother and my mother used this on me, most of the time they only had to do this once or twice and the next couple of days it did not itch, and it cleared up really quickly. In my own personal opinion I'd prefer this method over any of the drugs sold for poison ivy in the stores!
