Step 1
Double-click on the "Computer" or "My Computer" icons to open it.

Right-click on the hard drive, which is normally indicated as the "C:" drive, and a drop-down menu will appear. Click on "Properties."

On the "Properties" screen, click the "General" tab and then click on "Disk Cleanup."

Disk Cleanup will open and calculate the amount of space you can clean on your computer. In the "Files to delete" box, check everything you want to delete.

Click on "OK" to clean the hard drive.

Once Disk Cleanup is finished, close the program and click on the "Tools" tab on the "C:" drive "Properties" screen.

Click on "Defragment Now..." in the "Defragmentation" section.

When the Disk Defragmenter opens, click on "Analyze" to calculate the amount of disk space you'll gain and then click on "Defragment" to put the information fragments on your computer system back together.

Once it finishes, close all open windows and restart your computer to let the system adjust to the fixes.
