How to Make Mexican Table Decorations

It's easy to make Mexican table decorations because the most important element in a Mexican celebration is color. Bright greens, reds and shades of blue in tablecloths, plates and centerpieces create a festive atmosphere. Play up the colors for a casual party or use more subdued decorations for a formal party. Hang a pinata in the yard for an outdoor party and string chili pepper lights in the trees. Use your imagination when you make Mexican table decorations.

• Tablecloth
• Bandannas
• Place markers
• Candle holders
• Peppers
• Flowers

Instructions

1. 

   Lay a white tablecloth on the table and cross two multicolored table runners or pieces of fabric on top. Put place settings at the ends of the table and on the table runners for seating for six at a rectangular table. Use multiple table runners for a round table.

2. 

   Use colorful bandannas as napkins. Dress up plain napkin rings with ribbons that match the table runners or tie Mexican-themed novelty items, like plastic chili peppers, to the rings.

3. 

   Choose table settings in solid reds, blues and yellows or with a rustic floral pattern. Use Mexican glassware and festive stemware if you're serving margaritas.

4. 

   Create place markers with hard taco shells. Purchase individual taco holders and set a taco on one at each place setting. Write your guest's name on colorful paper and stand the paper up in the taco shell.

5. 

   Set clear glass candle holders on the table. Make a bed with a couple of chili peppers in the base of each and set short red, yellow and blue candles on top.

6. 

   Make a centerpiece with cut flowers in the same colors as your table decorations or make big paper flowers and set them in a basket. If it's the right season, look for small pepper plants at your garden store and arrange them as a centerpiece.

7. 

   Put small ceramic bowls on the table and arrange orange habanera peppers, green jalapenos, red chili peppers and tomatillos in them. Set a small pair of maracas beside each bowl.
