Instructions

    • 1

Turn the water off in your home. Although you are going to have to drain your radiator, it is always a good idea to make sure your water is off before you begin any project that connects to your plumbing.

    • 2

Locate the two valves that are on opposite, bottom ends the radiator. These are the two most important parts. They are the flow and return valves. One of the valves is a lockshield valve, and the other is the manual control valve that controls the thermostat.

    • 3

Rotate the manual control valve clockwise to close it. Also turning clockwise, close the lockshield valve.

    • 4

Find the drain-off, which should be a part of the lockshield valve that you just closed. Put your bucket below this before you open it, because it is going to drain the water from your radiator. If your bucket fills up, don't worry, as you can always close the drain-off and empty the bucket before continuing to drain.

    • 5

Look for the radiator's bleed valve, which is on the top right. If you are having trouble getting the radiator completely empty, trying opening the bleed valve, which will introduce airflow, draining the water out faster.

    • 6

Check the two union nuts that connect the radiator to the plumbing. If your radiator has a thermostat valve, make sure it is capped before you remove the union nuts, otherwise it will leak water onto your floor.

    • 7

Take off the two union nuts, and you should be able to easily lift your radiator up. Move it away from the wall.
