Bunk beds are popular for children of all ages. Make a typical bunk bed into an exciting escape by creating a half-tent on your child's bunk bed. With simple hooks and lightweight fabric you can quickly and easily create a tent with minimal expense, effort and preparation. Learn how to put a half-tent on a bunk bed and create a fun addition to your child's bunk bed that will be enjoyed for years.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 to 12 yards of lightweight fabric
  • Ceiling hooks
  • Sewing machine (with buttonhole stitch)
  • Sewing notions (thread, pins, scissors)
  • Iron
  • Tape measure
  • Fabric pen
  1. Step 1

Press under a quarter of an inch around all four edges of the lightweight fabric with the iron. Machine stitch around all of the edges to hem the fabric.

  2. Step 2

Position ceiling hooks in the ceiling above the top bunk. Because you are making a half-tent, begin the hooks at approximately the center of the bed. Place the hooks every six to eight inches along the ceiling to the foot of the bed.

  3. Step 3

Fold the fabric in half length-wise. Measure and mark a spot on the fabric for each hook that you placed on the ceiling. The marks should be evenly spaced along the fabric and equal distances apart from each other.

  4. Step 4

Sew two buttonholes half an inch apart from each other at each mark made for a fabric hook. Make the buttonholes approximately half an inch long.

  5. Step 5

Attach the fabric to the ceiling hooks by looping each double button hole onto a hook. The fabric should drape between the hooks and fall down the edges of both bunks to create the tent.
