How to Stain Brick Fireplaces

Staining brick is an inexpensive way to give an entire room a facelift. It's amazing how something so simple can do so much to change the look and feel of a room. Masonry stain is the best type of stain for this job as it adheres better and gives the brick a smoother look.

Things You'll Need

• Masonry stain
• Paint brush
• Masking tape
• Tarp or newspaper
• Plastic tray

Instructions

1. Tape off the areas that you don't want stain on to protect the walls and mantle.

2. Lay down newspaper or a tarp to protect the floor from accidental drips and spills.

3. Pour the stain into a plastic paint container.

4. Apply the stain to the brick in even brush strokes until all of the brick is covered. It may be advantageous to use a paint roller or paint sprayer to cover a large area.

5. Smooth out any dripping areas with a paint brush.

6. Allow the area 12 to 24 hours to dry.

• Ventilate the area well and wear a mask and gloves.
