How to Create Water Pressure from a Water Tank

Unless your water tank is placed at a higher elevation than the areas where the water will be used, which allows gravity to assist in creating water pressure, it can be difficult to create any water pressure from a simple water tank. There is, however, a rather simple answer. It is called a "pressure bladder" and is commonly used in homes that rely on well water and that do not wish to have an elevated storage tank. The bladder, as it is commonly referred to, pumps air into a water reservoir, creating the pressure that is needed to move the water throughout a home.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the bladder tank on a level surface close to where the water line exits your water tank.

    • 2

Use a crescent wrench to attach the outflow water pipe from your water tank to the inflow nipple on the bladder tank.

    • 3

Use the crescent wrench to attach the water line for your home to the outflow nipple of the bladder tank.

    • 4

      Plug in the bladder tank.

    • 5

Use the crescent wrench to adjust the air pressure valve (usually located on the very top of the bladder tank) to create the correct air pressure for the water pressure you desire.

    • 6

Open a valve in your home (such as a shower) to test the water pressure. Adjust the air pressure valve on the bladder tank to create the perfect water pressure for your needs.

Tips & Warnings

  • After the air pressure has been set on the bladder tank it should not have to be adjusted again.
