Things You'll Need:
- Two lengths of unbleached muslin, 122 inches by 50 inches
- One piece of 1-inch-thick memory foam, 120 inches by 44 inches
- Sewing machine and thread
- Straight pins
-
Step 1
Pin the two lengths of unbleached muslin together every 2 inches, using straight pins, beginning at one corner. Stitch along both short sides and one long side, 1 inch in from the edge, to make the cover.
-
Step 2
Turn the cover inside out. Fit the foam pad carefully inside the cover, making sure that it lies flat. Turn the unsewn edge inside 1 inch and use blind hand stitches to close the remaining side of the sleeping pad. Blind stitching means inserting your needle into the opening at an angle, sticking the point through one side of the fabric, pulling tight, then pointing the needle back into the ditch at an opposite angle and repeating, until the seam is closed.
-
Step 3
Stitch across the sleeping pad about 24 inches from one of the short ends, and again 1 inch further in. Do the same thing about 47 inches from that line of stitching, and again 1 inch away. You will have two pairs of stitched lines, 1 inch apart; one pair will be about 2 feet from one end of the pad, and the other will be about 4 feet from the other end of the pad.
-
Step 4
Fold the pad along the one-inch wide seams you made in Step 3. This makes a chair pad with a slight pillow.
-
Step 5
Open the chair pad all the way when you want to use it as a sleeping mat.
