How to Change a License Plate Light Bulb on a Saturn L300
The license plate bulbs on your Saturn L300 are one of those rear light bulbs you rarely think about. Hopefully, you're not reminded one or both are not working by a police officer. Replacing them is fairly simple and quick. Save yourself some money on labor charges and replace them yourself.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open the trunk of the Saturn L300 and hold it midway open against your chest or with one arm for easier access to the license plate bulbs.
-
2
Remove the screw from the license plate lens(es) with the Phillips screwdriver. There are two lenses, so make sure you're replacing the right one. Turn the lights on and check to make sure or replace both bulbs anyway since you're already there.
-
-
3
Pry the lens(es) out of the lens assembly carefully using the small flathead screwdriver. There's a small tab on each side of the lens opposite the screw that holds them in place.
-
4
Pull the burnt bulb(s) out of each socket and insert the new one.
-
5
Test the license plate lights by turning on the lights before you replace the lens(es) to make sure they're working. Replace the lens(es), remove the tools and old bulb(s) and close the trunk.

Nope Rkdad -you arent crazy. The person who wrote this article totally BS'ed their way through it because these instructions do not apply to ANY L-series. Your post is over a year old, so Im sure youve figured it out by now. Check your owners manual (page 356, IIRC). You have to go through the inside of the trunk to replace the bulbs. -

It's possible I'm insane, but these instructions don't seem to make sense with what I see on my vehicle. To begin, I assume the "lens" is the portion of clear plastic on the trunk that the passes through to illuminate the license plate. If I'm correct about that, then there are no screws anywhere near the lens on my vehicle. The lens appears to be glued in place, and there are no vacant wholes to indicate a missing screw. Also, the instructions in my Saturn manual make no mention of the lens when describing the bulb replacement process. One point: My vehicle is a 2002 Saturn L300. It is possible that these instructions correspond to models made after the 2003 redesign.
