Satellite radio, provided primarily through XM or Sirius, has become a popular form of entertainment. Satellite radios come standard in some newer vehicles. While the equipment is reasonable priced, installation can be challenging. However, once your equipment is up and running, it only takes s few easy steps to set up service.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Install your satellite radio. If you have a portable radio, make sure it is charged.

  2. Step 2

Determine the ID/ESN number of your satellite radio receiver. This number is on the box that your equipment came in.

  3. Step 3

Go to the appropriate website, or dial the appropriate toll free number (see Resources). The toll free number for XM is 1-800-XM-RADIO (967-2346), and the number for Sirius is 1-888-539-SIRIUS(7474). While the companies have merged, you will still need to activate your service by equipment compatibility.

  4. Step 4

Follow the steps required to activate your service. You will need a credit or debit card to complete the transaction. If your equipment is installed in your vehicle, you may need the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
