"Airsoft" describes a type of BB-sized ammunition used to play a variety of games such as capture the flag. These BB's are typically fired from replica air handguns and rifles at an opponent to tag or shoot them out of the game. However, there may be a time when you want to propel a large number of soft BB's at an opponent at one time. This is where the airsoft grenade comes into play. It is possible to make an effective grenade without fireworks by using baking soda and vinegar, which works very well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 sheet of Kleenex
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 5 ounces vinegar
  • 1 20-ounce plastic bottle
  • 25-50 airsoft BB's
  1. Step 1

Spread the Kleenex out on a flat surface. Place two tablespoons of baking soda in the center of the Kleenex. Fold the tissue in half to form a triangle. Fold the side points of the triangle inward, and then roll the tissue to form a tube.

  2. Step 2

Pour 5 ounces of vinegar into the 20-ounce container. The container should be thin-walled, similar to many bottles that contain water.

  3. Step 3

Add 25 to 50 airsoft BB's to the bottle containing vinegar.

  4. Step 4

Place the rolled tissue into the container and quickly screw on the cap. Shake the bottle for no more than a couple of seconds. The pressure from the chemical reaction will cause the bottle to explode as it impacts a surface, resulting in the BB's being propelled in all directions.

  5. Step 5

Throw the bottle in the general direction of the desired target. Remember, a grenade is designed to impact a general area rather than a specific target. Getting the grenade near the target is the primary goal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with the amount of vinegar, baking soda, type of tissue, number of BB's and length of mix time to fine-tune the airsoft grenade.
  • Wear appropriate eye protection when working with airsoft BB's as they may be propelled fast and far. Also take care to not allow the vinegar or vinegar and baking soda solution to come into contact with your eyes.
