Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Use a trailer to support your float. (This is optional if you have access to one.) The trailer will not only act as a stage for your float scene, it will provide you with additional decorating opportunities. Place bales of hay on the trailer and scatter the floor with loose straw. Cut out a cardboard railing to go around the trailer to give it a farm look, or use real wooden fencing if you can get it. You can use brown and black paint or crayons to give the cardboard a wooden fence appearance.
-
Step 2
Lay out a piece of vinyl in whatever color you want your horse to be. The size of the vinyl will change depending upon how large you want your horse's head to be. Fold the vinyl piece in half and draw a side view of a horse's head. Use a reference photo or find a photo you can cut out and use as a pattern if your drawing skills aren't up to the challenge.
-
Step 3
Cut the double sided horse head from the vinyl sheet and fold it together. Use cotton between the two halves of vinyl for stuffing. Glue or staple the two halves of the vinyl together to make the horse's head. Leave an opening at the base of the horse head to insert a broomstick.
-
Step 4
Use brown, black, or white colored string for the horse's mane. Attach the string to your horse's head with Elmer's glue. Cut a hole at the horse's throat and insert a piece of rope to represent the reins.
-
Step 5
Attache the horse heads to broomsticks. You can substitute sticks from nature for the broomsticks. Slide the stick into the base of your horse head and you're ready to ride. Put on your cowboy gear, climb onto the float, and enjoy the parade.
