How to Replace a Whirlpool Dryer Thermostat
The Whirlpool Company has been making quality appliances since 1911. Originally started by Louis, Frederick and Emory Upton in St. Joseph, MI, the Upton brothers began the company as the Upton Machine Company. In 1916, the Upton brothers joined with Sears, Roebuck and Co., and renamed the brand Whirlpool appliances. Whirlpool washers and dryers have been used in homes for many years and have become very dependable products. Occasionally, you will have to replace a part, such as the thermostat in a whirlpool dryer. Does this Spark an idea?

Unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet, and undo the two screws holding the front lower panel of the dryer in place with a screwdriver. Slide the panel down and pull it out to have access to the dryer's thermostat.

Locate the heat shield, which is on the right side of the dryer on the bottom as you are facing it. Remove the screw that is holding the shield in place.

Locate the thermostat, directly behind the heat shield. Your thermostat will have three wires (red, black and white) attached to it with clips that slide over the prongs on the thermostat. Unhook the wires, but remember how they were attached, so you can reattach them easily.

Remove the thermostat by undoing the two screws that are holding it in place. Once the old thermostat is in removed, replace it with the new thermostat by securing it to the dryer with the screws.

Reattach the electrical wires to the thermostat and put the heat shield back on with screws. Reattach the dryer's lower cover panel, and plug the dryer back into the electrical outlet.

Turn your dryer on, let it run about five minutes to verify that the thermostat is working properly, and then turn the unit off.
