How to Use a Glock Speed Loader

The Glock speed loader is a tool created, ostensibly, to ease the loading of Glock magazines. If you are familiar with speed loaders created for revolvers, you get the impression that the Glock device is something that will take a procedure that can take a minute or so, and cut it down to a split second. Actually, the only real advantage to it is that it saves your fingers from getting pinched when loading the mags, and it is really a value as you get down to the last couple of rounds that you are packing in. This device comes in the case with new Glock pistols, and is available at Glock retailers for a very modest cost.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Magazine for your Glock pistol
  • Glock speed loader
  • Box of ammunition
  • Flat, stable work area
  1. Step 1

Place your Glock magazine on a flat, stable working surface such as a workbench or a steady table.

  2. Step 2

Fit the Glock speed loader over the mouth of the magazine.

  3. Step 3

Depress the follower into the magazine using the speed loader.

  4. Step 4

Insert the cartridge until it makes contact with the post on the loading device.

  5. Step 5

Pull the loading device up until the post is out of the way.

  6. Step 6

Push the cartridge against the back of the magazine, assuring that it is firmly and correctly seated.

  7. Step 7

Depress the cartridge that you just seated with the loading device.

  8. Step 8

Insert the next cartridge, again making contact with the post on the loading device.

  9. Step 9

Repeat Steps 5 through 8 until your magazine is loaded to capacity.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find the speed loader concept to be a valuable one, but you have trouble with the Glock product, you may wish to consider a product manufactured by HKS. They produce what they prefer to call a Magloader that works with many pistol models, including most Glocks. It is less compact than the Glock speed loader, but it is somewhat easier to use. Like the Glock, it is less a speed loader, and more a tool to save your fingers.
  • As always, when handling firearms and cartridges, exercise the utmost caution and good firearms safety practices. While it is unlikely that a dropped cartridge will explode, there is a chance, albeit a small one, that it will, so be sure to wear your eye protection when loading magazines. Never attempt to load a magazine with more cartridges than the manufacturer suggests. This will likely result in the pistol jamming and incorrect feeding from the magazine. High-capacity magazines are available from companies like Scherer and conversion kits, allowing stock magazines to hold an extra round are available as well. Items like these will allow you to safely pack more rounds into your weapon.
