Cleaning air vents in the Volvo's interior removes dust and vent odors. This process is safe to use even on high-end Volvo cars. Older Volvos can develop mold in the air vents because the air conditioner gets damp and never dries out, which creates a terrible smell in the car when the air conditioner is on. Cleaning the Volvo's air vents with disinfectant or a similar product made especially for air vents can kill the mold and remove the smell.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cotton swabs
  • Disinfectant
  • Household cleaner
  • Canned air
  1. Step 1

Spray the end of a cotton swab with a household cleaner. Do not use a strong cleaner with ammonia, because it can damage the window tint.

  2. Step 2

Clean between the slats of the vents with the cotton swab to remove the dust. Use a new cotton swab once the old one becomes dirty. Remember to clean the vents at the front of the dash board by the windshield and the vents underneath the seat, if your Volvo has them.

  3. Step 3

Spray canned air into the vents to remove the remaining dust that could not be reached by the cotton swab.

  4. Step 4

Spray disinfectant into the vents if you can smell mold when the air vents are on. The air conditioning condenser become wet when in use and if it does not dry, it can become moldy. Hold the tip of the disinfectant spray into the vent and spray for 10 to 15 seconds. There will be a disinfectant smell in your car for a few days, but it will go away.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a product called Clean Air the same way you use disinfectant in the vents. The smell of Clean Air is not as strong as disinfectant, but the results will be the same.
  • Keep the Volvo's doors open throughout this process for proper ventilation. Keep the doors open for an hour after you spray the disinfectant into the vents.
