Sometimes when doing some home renovations, drywall screws can break off inside the drywall. There are a few different ways that you can remove a broken dry wall screw with household tools. It's important to remove these broken drywall screws, so when your project is complete the drywall is secure and doesn't threaten to crack or be compromised.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Needle-nosed pliers
  • Vice grips
  1. Step 1

Find the broken drywall screw that you need to remove and inspect the area. If you can actually see into the hole to where the remaining broken half of the screw is, then your job might be quite simple.

  2. Step 2

Insert your needle-nosed pliers into the hole where the broken drywall screw that needs removed is. If possible, clasp the broken screw between the pliers and pull it out of the wall. If this works, your job is finished.

  3. Step 3

Determine if the broken dry wall screw is holding two pieces of materials together. If it is, pull the two pieces apart. Most likely the broken drywall screw will just fall right out once you get the two pieces far enough apart.

  4. Step 4

Dig around the area of the broken screw, until you are able to insert either your pliers or vice grips. Pull the broken drywall screw out of the wall. Once you are finished, repair the wall with the appropriate material.

  5. Step 5

Use a broken screw extractor tool by inserting the tool into your drywall and clamping it down by turning the tool into the drywall. Pull the broken screw extractor tool out of the drywall to remove the screw.
