How to Hang a Mirror on a Brick Fireplace
You've got a brick fireplace that needs some dressing up, and a mirror would be the perfect adornment. But you can't just hammer a nail with a picture hook into brick. The surface is so hard you'll most likely end up with a bent nail and/or a cracked brick. If you use the right tools and techniques, you can hang even a heavy mirror safely and successfully. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 5/16-inch diameter drill with masonry bit

1
Weigh your mirror. Select an anchor and a screw with a picture hook attached that will hold that much weight.
-
2
Drill a hole into the mortar using a masonry bit. (The mortar is relatively soft so there's less chance of cracking than there would be drilling into the brick itself.) The hole should be the diameter of the anchor you're using.

Tips & Warnings
Use eye protection when you hammer or drill on brick surfaces. As an alternative, use a brick hook with a heavy nail that doesn't bend. You just have to drill a small hole, put the nail into the hook and hammer it in.
