Turn the power off to your entire house. You are going to be working on a ladder and installing lights, so it is important that you reduce any possible dangers. You should also use a voltage tester to make sure no electricity is running to your home.

Locate the outlet box through which you plan to install your new roof lights. If there are any lights connected to the outlet box, remove the entire system so the black and white wires are exposed.

Clean the outlet box to get rid of dirt and dust that could disrupt your electrical connection.

Install your new roof light by securing it with screws to the outlet box. If the light kit recommends a different method of securing the lighting unit, follow those directions. Make sure you connect the black wires to the black wires, and the white wires to the white wires.

Turn the electricity to your home back on, so you can test your lights. You might want to keep your ladder out, so you can go back up and adjust the light beam's direction to your liking. Because you have installed your roof lights in an existing outlet box, there should already be a switch to turn them on and off.
