How to Replace a Moen Riser Faucet Cartridge

- Flat and Phillips screwdrivers
- Channel-grip pliers
- Adjustable wrench
- Crescent wrench
- Hex wrench

Locate the model number of your faucet. If you have saved the original packaging or instruction sheets, the model number will be listed there. If not, you can find the series number behind the spout. Then, go to the Replacement Part Locator and compare your faucet to the pictures shown to get the exact model number.

Purchase the replacement cartridge. You can find a Moen cartridge to fit your faucet by locating a Moen dealer near you. You may also purchase through the Moen web store, or order by phone at the Moen Consumer Services Center at 1-800-289-6636. Customer service agents are available to take your call from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Eastern time.

Turn off water source. Handles are typically found underneath the sink. Twist each handle clockwise. On the faucet, open each handle all the way to make sure that all water is out of the lines.

Remove the handle from your faucet. Some faucets have tops that can be pried off with a flat head screwdriver, others have small screws at the base of the handle that should be removed with a hex wrench.

Access the old cartridge. Remove the washer and retaining clips. You will need the pliers to remove the clips.

Remove the old cartridge. Included in your our replacement kit is a white plastic tool which must be inserted to remove the cartridge. Place the tool over the top of the old cartridge, then use the pliers to twist the cartridge back and forth. Once it is loose, pull straight out.

Install the new cartridge. Line it up directly over the valve, then push down firmly. Make sure that the cartridge also lines up with the retaining clip notch.

Replace the washer, other parts and handle that you removed in steps 4-6.
