Mahjong Towers, properly known as Mahjong Towers Eternity, is a computer game that can either be downloaded or played online. It's a solitaire version of the popular tile game, whose basic premise entails removing pairs of like tiles from the game board. The goal is to remove all tiles before running out of possible moves.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC with Internet connection
  • Web browser directed to the game, or downloaded copy (linked below)

    Setting Up The Game

  1. Step 1

Click "Start" from the game's main menu.

  2. Step 2

Select a layout from the list on the left side of the screen, then click "Play." Layouts that award a higher "Finish Bonus" are typically more difficult.

  3. Step 3

Choose a play mode. "Classic" is a regular game, "Speed" shows only the tiles you can match and is basically a race against time, and "Concentration" only shows tiles when you move your mouse over them.

  4. Step 4

Choose a tileset, which dictates the cosmetic appearance of the game tiles, then click "Ready" to start the game.

  5. Basic Rules

  6. Step 1

Take some time to examine the game board. The clock will not start until you click a tile.

  7. Step 2

Move the mouse over any tile that is not bordered by another tile on the right or left and is not overlapped by another tile on top. Tiles that qualify are highlighted in red when you move the mouse over them.

  8. Step 3

Click on any of these tiles to select it, turning it red. Then click on any other qualifying tile with the same face design to make both tiles disappear.

  9. Step 4

Keep an eye on the number of "Matches" noted on the left side of the screen. This tells you how many pairs of tiles you can eliminate in your current position.

  10. Getting Help in a Jam

  11. Step 1

Click "Hint" when you can't find a pair of tiles to match on your own. This will point out a matching pair, but it will also add 10 seconds to the game clock.

  12. Step 2

Click "Undo" to go back one step, should you make a move you regret. This can be done an unlimited number of times, but the game clock will continue to run.

  13. Step 3

Click "Shuffle" when you can't make any more matches. This will rearrange all faces of the remaining tiles, but it adds 60 seconds to the game clock. Also, you can only Shuffle once per game.

  14. Step 4

Click either "Restart" or "Undo" when you run out of matches and shuffles. At this point, your game is over unless you can trace your steps back to a critical error.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to keep the number of available matches as high as possible. The more options you have to remove tiles, the better chance you'll have at winning. If you do run out of matches, Undo to a point where you had several matches to choose from, and take a different path.
