Things You'll Need:
- Vacuum
- Resolve Carpet Cleaner
- Surgical Spirits
- Cotton swabs
- Paper towels
- Vinegar
- Carpet cleaner

Step 1
Vacuum your gray carpet every three days to keep the dirt from building up and becoming difficult to clean. If you have a high-traffic area in your home, you are going to want to vacuum it daily.
-
Step 2
Take the attachments off your vacuum and make sure you vacuum around the baseboards. Gray carpet may not show every speck of dirt, but it can't hide build-up that forms around the carpet's edges.
-
Step 3
Use a carpet cleaner that is safe for colors, such as Resolve Carpet Cleaner. Squirt the Resolve on any stains in your gray carpet that need to be cleaned. Wait 10 minutes and then begin to remove the stain with an old rag. Work from the outside by blotting toward the inside. This way you don't spread the stain.
-
Step 4
Dip a cotton swab in a bottle of surgical spirits and apply to any oily food stain that you may have gotten on your gray carpet (see link in Resources). Work from the outer edges in to the middle and then use paper towels to blot up the oily food. Then clean with carpet cleaner as you did in Step 3.
-
Step 5
Apply vinegar to any stains that are already dried in to your carpet. Allow the vinegar to sit for 15 minutes to soften the stain back up again. Vinegar will also remove any odors that were caused by the stain, such as coffee. Use paper towels to soak up the stain and then clean it with the Resolve.
-
Step 6
Rent a carpet cleaner and wash your carpet once per month. Remember that if you rent a carpet cleaner, you have to furnish the cleaning solution.
