How to T9 on a Samsung

The T9 Function on cell phones, most commonly referred to as "Predictive Text," speeds up the text entry time for users by offering a predicted set of keywords based on what the user has started typing. Samsung phones manufactured in the last several years all offer this function turned on and ready to go out of the box; of course, you'll want to know how to use T9 if it's your first time using the feature.

Instructions

Access your text message screen on your device. This will vary based on the phone you are using, but typically there will be a "message folder" icon on your phone or a message envelope icon on the touchscreen part of your device.

    • 2

Begin typing in your message and watch your screen as you type. For instance, if you start to type just the first three letters of the word "Love" or "568" you will see that the word "Love" appears on the screen; if that's the word you want to use, press the "okay" option on your phone and move onto the next word.

Skipping words is also a possibility. For instance, if, when you are typing "LOVE," you enter ""568," and the word "Lone" appears, you have the option to type in the last letter, which will then display the word Love, or you can simply press on your device's "Up" arrow, and the next possible word will appear, which, given that sequence of letters, will probably be "Love," since there aren't many words formed using 5683.

Turning off the Samsung T9 function is also simple. In most cases, when you are in your text menu screen, you can simply go to the options screen and turn off the function. Other Samsung devices allow for T9 to be turned off by touching a "Soft Key" that displays the option on the screen. Refer to your manual if the options screen does not turn this function on and off. Samsung's phone guide website can also help you find tips for turning T9 on and off.
