How to Create an Invoice Item in Quickbooks

QuickBooks is one of the most popular accounting software programs used by small to mid-sized businesses. Although you can perform many account functions in QuickBooks, a common task is to create an invoice item. An invoice item is a description of a different product or service that will appear on your client's invoice. Before you create an invoice item in QuickBooks, you will need to have the accounting software loaded on your computer.

      Launch QuickBooks. At the start up screen, you will find the "Invoices" menu under the "Money In" tab. Click on the icon to continue. Select "New" to create a new invoice item.

      Complete the appropriate fields at the top of the invoice header. You will need to fill in the customer information as well as change any pre-selected fields if necessary. You may want to adjust the invoice number, due date and ship date. If the invoice is for an existing client, you can select from the "Customer" drop down menu. Otherwise, complete the new customer wizard by putting in the client's address and payment information.

      Place your cursor on the "Item" field of the invoice. Click the arrow key in order to choose "Add New." A new window will appear on your screen.

      Fill in all of the fields to create an invoice item in QuickBooks. You need to provide item name, description and price. Continue by hitting the "Ok" key. The new QuickBooks invoice item will now appear on your screen. You will then be able to access the invoice item at anytime by returning to the "Item" tab and viewing the alphabetically ordered drop down menu.

      Save all of your changes on the QuickBooks invoice. To save the invoice item, you will need to choose one of the save options at the bottom of the page.
