How to Identify a Matsonic Motherboard

A computer's motherboard is the main circuit board which contains the plug for the processor, RAM, peripheral cards and plugs to connect to the hard drives and disk drives. Knowing what type of motherboard you have is important if you plan to upgrade certain components of the computer, such as the RAM, processor or software drivers. Matsonic is a lesser-known motherboard producer which mainly makes motherboards made for Intel processors.

Look at your basic system information. You can pull up a list of basic system information by clicking "Start," then right clicking "My Computer" and selecting "Properties." This list may contain some basic information bout your motherboard.

Use a diagnostic tool to identify your Matsonic motherboard. The easiest way to obtain detailed information about a motherboard is to run a diagnostic program. CPU-Z is a popular diagnostic program which can be downloaded for free and diagnoses information such as the motherboard model, serial numbers, part numbers and manufacturing dates (see link in Resources).

Physically identify the motherboard. Another way to identify a motherboard is to open the case and look for identifying information, such as the model, part or serial numbers on the board itself. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws holding on the left panel of the computer's case, and set the panel aside. Look at the surface of the board for identifying stickers or printing. Most motherboards have model numbers and the information printed somewhere on them.

Tips & Warnings

  • CPU-Z does not need to be installed on your hard drive. It can run from an executable file right after downloading it. Matsonic motherboards are uncommon and therefore support for Matsonic boards, such as driver updates and help, may be more difficult to find.
