Vacuum forming is the process for making plastic molds. It is also referred to as Thermoforming. Vacuum-formed candy molds allow you to make candy in your own personalized shapes. The most efficient way to do this is by using a vacuum-forming machine. The machines can range anywhere between $50 and $900 for the larger industrial machines. Vacuum-formed candy molds can be used to make holiday and birthday candies, decorative candies or any shaped candy you like.

Things You'll Need

• Plastic sheets
• Vacuum-forming machine
• Vacuum source, such as home vacuum

Instructions

Process

1. Use the vacuum-forming machine to heat the plastic until it becomes soft.

2. Place the object you want to shape the mold to in your machine and place the soft plastic over it.

3. Use your home vacuum to create suction between the plastic and the object you are creating a mold of, so that your plastic perfectly forms the shape of your object. Some machines have the vacuum source built into them.

4. Allow the plastic to cool so that it sets in the shape of your object.

5. Remove the plastic from your object.
