Things You'll Need:
- Tension wrench
- Paper clip or lock pick
-
Step 1
Use a paper clip instead of a professional lock pick if you don't want to spend the extra money for one. Bend one end of the paper clip out straight and hammer the tip flat with a hammer.
-
Step 2
Pull the end up slightly at an angle using a set of pliers, but not too sharply. A flat paper clip will work, but a slight bend on the end can make it easier. If you have trouble inserting the paper clip into your lock, start again and use a paper clip with a flattened end.
-
Step 3
Insert the tension wrench into the bottom of the lock. Turn it in the direction you normally would to unlock the door and keep pressure on it.
-
Step 4
Push the paper clip or your professional lock pick, into the lock above the tension wrench. Wiggle it around until you meet some resistance. Try pushing up until you feel the lock inside the door shift. The tension wrench should turn a little further. Keep firm pressure on it.
-
Step 5
Push the paper clip or lock pick in further and repeat this procedure. The resistance you are feeling is each of the individual pins in the lock. When you push them up and out of the way, it lets the tension wrench open the lock a little more. Once you open the last pin, the door should open.
