Open Excel. Click the "Start" button in Excel 2007 ("File" and "New" in previous versions of Excel). Choose "New" and select a blank workbook from the template library. This is the most basic way to create a web database with custom information. You can customize the spreadsheet yourself or use one of the hundreds of templates that come with Excel.

Type a web page title in column A. Type a description of the web page in column B and paste the web page address (URL) in column C. The URL will appear as a fully functional hyperlink. Use the "Format" function to format the cells to autofit so you can view all text within the individual cells.

Use the web to Excel plug in (see resources). This plug in is available as a shareware download, fully functional, and will allow you to extract selected information from a website and transfer the information directly into your Excel web page database. Once the information has been imported, you can sort it any way you want to sort it.

Use the "Hyperlink" feature on the "Insert" menu to browse the Internet directly from Excel. This feature allows you to insert web page addresses into your Excel spreadsheet automatically. Keep Excel open as you do research on the Internet, and use the "Hyperlink" option to save your web page data as you surf, ensuring you never lose important website information.

Add images, charts, and other graphical elements to your database using the "Insert" menu. You can customize the final look of your database by picking the fonts you want to use and taking advantage of the standard formatting features found in Microsoft Word.
