How to Write Destination Wedding Invitations
-
1
When placing the wedding date on the front of your invitations, or on the inside, it is critical to also put the geographic location of the wedding. This alerts guests right away that the wedding is out of the country or area in which they live.
-
2
On a separate wedding insert, put the wedding venue, address, phone number and website. This will allow guests to check out exactly where the wedding will be taking place.
-
-
3
If the wedding venue is also where the wedding guests will be staying, such as a beach-side resort, you will also want to add the direct contact number of the reservation specialist servicing your wedding party.
-
4
In the event that the wedding venue is not where the guests of the wedding will be staying, you will need to include suggestions for accommodations. This can be done on a separate insert or the same one with the wedding venue details. Be sure that this is explicitly stated so that there is no confusion. You don't want people showing up thousands of miles away with nowhere to stay.
-
5
For the suggested places to stay, include the name, address, phone number, website and distance from the wedding venue. Special room rates that have been secured should be noted as well.
-
6
If a special airline rate, shuttle rate or other form of transportation has been set up, an additional insert should be included. Include the name of the company, phone number, email address and website so guests are able to contact them quickly and easily.
-
7
Specifically with weddings outside of the United States, or other industrialized countries, information about needed vaccinations, visas or passport requirements should also be included in the wedding invitation on a separate insert.
-
8
If a vaccination is needed explain what it is for, the approximate cost and, if such information is available, where each guest can go to receive the vaccination---address, phone number, website and office hours of a nearby clinic.
For a passport, include information about nearby passport offices, such as address and phone number. Also direct people to the government's passport site, http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html.
Visa requirements, though rare, can also be printed on this insert. Details of how to secure such a visa, where to do so, and how much it will cost should all be printed on this additional insert within the destination wedding invitation.
