Do a Roller Wrap Hairstyle

Roller wrapping refers to a hairstyling technique that produces optimal results when used on thick, coarse hair. The advantage of the roller wrapping method is its ability to create styles that last for several days at a time, requiring minimal touch-ups. Whether you wrap your hair at home on your own or enlist the help of a hairstylist to get ready for a special occasion, the time you invest in roller wrapping will be well worth it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Hairbrush
  • Comb
  • Hair setting lotion
  • Sectioning clips
  • Hair rollers
  • Hardhat hair dryer
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairspray
  1. Step 1

Shampoo and condition your hair as you usually would. Use a brush to remove any tangles from the damp hair and air dry it.

  2. Step 2

Use a comb to evenly distribute a setting lotion throughout the hair, starting at the scalp and ending at the tips.

  3. Step 3

Pin the top section of your hair to the crown of your head with a sectioning clip.

  4. Step 4

Set the portion of your hair that is not pinned back first. Wrap the end of a section of hair--measuring approximately 1 inch--around a roller. Wind the entire section around the roller until it presses against your scalp.

  5. Step 5

Repeat step 4 on the remaining sections of hair. Once the bottom portion of hair is set in rollers, remove the section clip to release the top portion and set it.

  6. Step 6

Sit under a hardhat dryer until your hair is completely dry. Remove the rollers from your hair.

  7. Step 7

Wrap each curl around your head and secure it in place with a booby pin. Once all of your hair is pinned up, it should form a beehive shape.

  8. Step 8

Unpin your hair after about an hour. Use a medium-hold hairspray to set the style in place for several days.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not pull downwards on the roller when attempting to remove it; that will result in tangling and damage. Instead, gently wind it outwards in a way that the roller forms a 90-degree angle to your head.
