Friction turkey calls, commonly referred to as box calls, are the most popular form of turkey call. You simply rub the top of the box to create friction and make a turkey noise. Turkeys are attracted to the call, providing targets for you to hunt.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thin pieces of wood
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Wood carver
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Cut wood to make a small box. Use a ¼-inch piece of wood for the top and bottom of your call. Use four 1/8-inch pieces of wood for your sides. Make sure the pieces of wood are dry and fit together. Cut 1/8-inch grooves in the top and bottom pieces of wood, so the sides will slide in them.

  2. Step 2

Glue the sides of the box into the bottom, one at a time. Run glue in the bottom grooves. Hold each side piece onto the groove while the glue dries.

  3. Step 3

Drill a 1/8 inch hole in the center of the top piece.

  4. Step 4

Glue on the top. Run glue into the top grooves. Fit the top onto the sides of the friction turkey call and hold it in place until the glue dries.

  5. Step 5

Create a hole in another piece of wood that's identical to the top piece.

  6. Step 6

Screw a 1/8-inch screw through the hole in the new piece of wood, then into the hole in the top of the box. When you turn the top piece of wood, the noise the screw makes into the box attracts turkeys.
