Outlook Express blocks most pictures in emails for security purposes. Email attachments like photographs can harbor viruses that can infiltrate your computer when they are opened in an email program. However, this security measure can be annoying when you receive email pictures from someone you trust, like a family member or valid website. To get Outlook Express to display email pictures, you will have to manually change the default settings.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open Outlook Express.

  2. Step 2

Click "Tools" on the main toolbar and choose "Options."

  3. Step 3

Click "Read" and un-check the box marked "Read messages in plain text." Click "OK."

  4. Step 4

Close Outlook Express to save the default setting changes. The next time you open the program you will be able to view email pictures.
