Creating a paint scheme can help an interior designer make an easy-to-see, eye-catching room. Having a pleasing paint scheme draws people into the space, and allows the homeowner to make the most out of her living space. If a homeowner wants to sell her home, changing the paint scheme can significantly add value to the home. Here is a simple way to make your own eye-catching and beautifully balanced paint scheme.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paint Swatches
  1. Step 1

Visit a paint supply store, and collect free color swatches. You can take as many as you like, and it can help you visually balance your paint scheme. Select different color ranges, such as muted tones and vibrant tones.

  2. Step 2

Sort the paint swatches by color, and separate the colors by complement. For example, match the green tones with muted reddish tones, and match a blue tone with a muted orange tone. By matching the bright colors with a muted complementary color, you create an eye-catching combination. If you do not know which color complements which, an easy guide is to combine blues with oranges, greens with reds and purples with yellows.

  3. Step 3

Select the color that you prefer the best, and then select the muted complementary color to match it. Once you select the colors, chose a very light brown to blend in between the two colors you selected. For example, if your chosen colors are purple and yellow, select a very light brown. The light brown will bring together the two complementary colors, creating a balanced paint scheme for your home.
