Things You'll Need:
- Screwdriver
- 1-inch foam strip
-
Step 1
Prepare the space. Clean the window thoroughly and remove the storm window, if necessary. Unpack the air conditioner and double-check the size before lifting it into the window.
-
Step 2
Position the unit. Make sure it is level before you attach the screws. Lower the casement until it rests on top of the air conditioner. Align the unit's metal lip (with several holes) in front of the casement.
-
Step 3
Muffle the noise made by your Carrier air conditioner. Noise is often a problem with older or aluminum windows. Place a strip of foam between the window casement and the air conditioner to muffle the sound.
-
Step 4
Insert the screws that came with the unit with a screwdriver or drill. Start with the middle screw and make sure each screw is tight.
-
Step 5
When it's secure, make sure the unit doesn't tilt forward or backward. This can disrupt the freon in the unit and hamper its cooling abilities. Adjust as necessary.
