How to Repair a Sears Exercise Bike
If you own a Sears exercise bike, eventually there may come a time when the bike calls for repairs. The type of repairs necessary will be determined by the bike's model and the type of parts needed. One of the most common Sears exercise bikes is the Lifestyler JH4000, and one of the most common bike repairs required is a simple seat change.

Order a new bike seat from Sears or directly from the manufacturer of the Lifestyle JH4000 (see Resources).

If the nuts and washers are screwed into the bottom of the new seat, remove them and set them aside.

Remove the three nuts and washers from the bottom of the old bike seat and take it off the bike.

Position the new seat on top of the black, triangular seat post. Align the premade holes in the bottom of the new seat with the seat the holes in the post.

Insert the washers and nuts into the premade holes and hand tighten them. Finish off tightening the seat with a wrench, but do not overtighten.

Test the seat positioning to ensure maximum comfort and to check to see if the seat is securely positioned. When sitting on the bike, your leg should be bent slightly when your foot is positioned on the petal that is situated in the down position; if it is not, the seat requires height adjustment. If the seat is loose or wobbly, recheck the tightness of the nuts beneath the seat.

If the seat requires a height adjustment, locate the round knob positioned on the seat post just below the seat. Unscrew the knob and slide the seat either up or down as needed, then retighten the adjustment knob. Retest the seat to ensure correct positioning.

Positioning the seat too high can result in leg strain, back strain and pulled muscles; whereas positioning the seat too low can result in back pain and discomfort.
