How to Tell Someone They Stink

Many of us are so afraid of hurting someone's feelings, but haven't you thought to yourself... If I ever do this or that I sure wished someone would tell me? Well many people appreciate some brutal honesty. Now there is a difference between brutal honesty and being rude and inconsiderate. There are times when anyone might not smell the best, but there are some people who constantly stink. These people need to be told, but how to tell them without hurting their feelings?

Instructions

1. First rule is to make sure whatever you do, make it a private matter. This will be embarrassing enough for the person without having to announce it to the world.

2. Find a nicer way to break the bad news. For example: "I am not telling you this to hurt your feelings, but I'd want to know if I was in your shoes. I think your deodorant does not work right with your body." Of course if they don't wear deodorant they will take the hint, and if they are using one that does not work, which might be the case they will change. Another approach could be: I thought you'd want to know that people are being bothered by your smell. People really like you but because they don't like your smell it drives them away.

3. If the situation is one were the person is wearing to much perfume verses b.o. you can politely tell them. For example: "I hate to mention this, but I must be sensitive to your perfume because it gives me a headache. Would you mind not wearing it when we are together?" If they know you are sensitive or allergic they should be more than happy to not wear it around you. If not who needs them!

4. If you are uncomfortable about confronting the person perhaps it is time to leave an anonymous note. In some situations it might be best for both parties, others not. Just be very pleasant and reassuring.
