How to Apply a Chemical Relaxer to Virgin Hair

This step by step guide will tell you how to apply chemical relaxer to your hair if it is your first time. Follow these steps and go from curly to straight hair!

Things You'll Need:

  • Chemical relaxer
  • Towel
  • Warm water
  • Neutralizing Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  1. Step 1
    Check your hair
     
    Check your hair

    Check scalp for abrasions,cuts,lice,etc. If you do happen o find any of them, wait until it is healed if you have a cut or abrasion and get rid of lice. Make sure your scalp is in good healthy condition before applying the chemical relaxer.

  2. Step 2

    Vaseline

    Cover your shoulders and clothing with a towel and cape. Part your hair into 4 sections. Apply vaseline to the hairline and in between the hair using your rat tail comb, make small parting and apply the vaseline on the scalp only all over the head.

  3. Step 3

    Apply relaxer to 1/2" away from the roots and 1/2" away fro the ends starting from the bottom back to the top.
    When done, apply the remaining relaxer to the roots only and slide your fingers from the roots to the ends of your hair making sure there is enough product on the hair.

    Check hair

    Check hair with the comb every 5 to 10 minutes for relaxed hair. Check the instructions that came with the relaxer for the the length of time you are suppose to leave the relaxer in your hair.

    Once done rinse your hair in warm water and wash your hair with neutralizing shampoo and rinse again making sure all product is out of your hair. Blot dry or heat dry and style as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not wash,brush your hair or scratch your scalp prior to a chemical relaxer.
  • Do not comb hair either.
