How to Fade Age Spots Naturally
Age spots are different than freckles and moles, and though not literally caused by "aging," they make us feel older because they often appear later in life. There are numerous products on the market that claim to fade or remove them, and many might work well. This eHow article shows how others fade age spots naturally with homemade methods, as well as which base ingredients to look for when purchasing an age spot fading product. For any of the methods below unless otherwise noted, dab them directly on the age spot so it fades, and not the surrounding skin, which could make skin appear blotchy. Or, if you have many age spots close together, you may want to rub the mixtures on the entire area. Does this Spark an idea?

Fade age spots with the right purchased product. When purchasing an over the counter product, look for 2% hydroquinone (HQ), a very effective bleaching agent, along with either alpha-hydroxy acid or retinol, which are reported to help speed the action of HQ. Another purchased choice is Bio-Oil which uses other natural ingredient mixes to fade other body marks, and many reportedly use it successfully to fade age spots (Resources below lists one source for this oil).

Prevent new ones. Too much sun and a lack of selenium are reported to be the main culprits of new age spots. Apply sunscreen to the top of your hands, arms and other areas prone to age spots as long as you know you've gotten your daily dose of vitamin D from the sun (which sunscreen can block), and eat three raw Brazil nuts a day. These are sold bulk at health food stores. They're delicious and loaded with natural selenium.
