In this article I will tell you how to set up a goldfish bowl so that your fish can live happy and healthy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Goldfish Bowl
  • Tank rocks
  • Water filter
  • Some fake or real aquarium plants (optional)

First you must make sure that the goldfish bowl is clean so that your fish will not be sick. Never clean your fish bowl with bleach or other chemicals though. You must use warm water and dish soap.

  2. Step 2

Then when your bowl is clean and dry, you should rinse the rocks you will be putting in it. There is often dust and dirt mixed in with these rocks that can be bad for your fish. You can rinse the rocks by putting them in a bowl and running water over them while running your hands through them. Then tip the bowl so the water escapes but not the rocks.

Now you put the rocks into the bowl and make sure they lay evenly.

Then if you have fake plants you can put them down into the rocks so that they are free standing. If you have live plants, you will need to fill the bowl with water and then smooth down the rocks and plant the plants.

  5. Step 5

If you had fake plants now is the time to add the water. Just make sure you don't fill the bowl all the way so that the water displacement caused by the fish and the water filter wont make the water overflow.

  6. Step 6

Then you attach the water filter to the side of the bowl so that it causes air bubbles for your fish. Even fish need oxygen.

  7. Step 7

Now your fish bowl is all set up. Visit my article on introducing a fish to its bowl when you are ready for this step.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try not to put your hands in the water for the fish any more than you have to as the oils on your skin are bad for fish.
