I like to find new craft patterns and fiber arts ideas for projects such as crochet, knitting, sewing and other projects. Over the years I have managed to find free fiber arts and craft patterns from various forms of resources. Here are some of the ways that I have managed to gain those free fiber arts and craft patterns.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    FIND FREE CRAFT PATTERNS ONLINE
Craft stores often have project ideas and craft patterns available on their online websites. They also have online coupons available that you may be able to use when purchasing your project supplies.

Many yarn companies, such as Lions Brand, Bernat, and Coats and Clark will have fiber arts ideas and patterns available online. I like Coats and Clark online, because it offers a very large selection of free crochet, knitting, sewing and other fun project and craft patterns. I also find their site to be very user friendly to find projects according to my skill level.

There is also a large abundance of child craft patterns and ideas available online as well. In fact, way more than I could even try to mention here. So, I will just mention that my favorite child craft site has been DLTK’s Crafts for Kids, because it offers such a wide variety of activities and themes.

  2. Step 2

FIND FREE CRAFT PATTERNS IN BOOKS
Going to your local library is a great way to find books on many different types of craft patterns. You can find books specific to crochet, knitting, quilting, woodworking, art, child crafts, and so much more. Be sure that you look at books available in the juvenile section as well. Books that are in the juvenile section are usually smaller and easier to read with a fun variety of projects that are good for the adult, as well as for kids. Using books is also a great way to find patterns for the beginner or the advanced crafter.

This idea isn’t a free idea, but I thought I’d throw it in as an inexpensive idea. You could look for crochet, knit, and other craft pattern books at used book stores, thrift stores, library book sales, or as sale or discounted items at the regular book store.

  3. Step 3

FIND FREE CRAFT PATTERNS IN MAGAZINES
If you already subscribe to a craft, family, or home magazines, these are a good source for free project and craft patterns. If you do not subscribe to any magazines like this, again, the library is a great place to seek them out. Some libraries allow you to check out magazines, while others do not. But either way, magazines are a good source to find many types of crochet, knit and other craft patterns and project ideas.

Some magazines may also offer free craft patterns and project ideas online. It’s worth going to their site and seeing if they have this service available. A final magazine suggestion is that maybe you know someone who does subscribe to these types of magazines so that you can get a peek into some ideas through those magazines.

  4. Step 4

LOOK FOR FREE FIBER ARTS PATTERNS ON YARN COVERS/ SLEEVES
Those paper sleeves that are wrapped around skeins of yarn when you purchase them, often have a crochet or knit pattern printed on them. I have made a few projects by using those free patterns for fiber arts.

  5. Step 5

LOOK FOR FREE CRAFT PATTERNS IN CRAFT STORES
In many craft stores, or in craft isles there may be free craft patterns and project ideas hanging along the merchandise shelves that are available for you to tear a sheet off the pad and take with you.

on 6/11/2009 I've been collecting patterns just like this for since I was 18 and found myself financially challenged just in time for the holidays. You've covered all the bases, good article.
