Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose a containers to create an indoor herb garden. You do not need to purchase special pots or containers from the marketplace. Old pots, plastic containers, or bottles can be cut down and made into pots. Do not use containers made of or containing metal - they will rust which will kill you plants.

  2. Step 2

Select pots or containers for your plants that will allow room for them to grow. This will save time replanting them when they mature.

  3. Step 3

Place your plants in a location where they will receive enough light to grow. Many people like to place their indoor herb garden in the kitchen, but depending on the light this may not be the ideal location.

  4. Step 4

For beginners, choose herbs that are easy to grow when creating an indoor herb garden - such as basil, oregano, chives, and rosemary. If you are unsure what will work best for you, talk to a sales associate at the store before you purchase plants or seeds.

  5. Step 5

If you create an indoor herb garden from seed, do not bury the seeds too deeply in the soil. It will take longer for the plant to reach the surface and mature.

  6. Step 6

If you begin you herb garden from pre-started plants, be careful when you transfer them to their permanent containers. Also, do not pack the soil tightly around the roots. Otherwise your herbs will not be able to grow properly.

  7. Step 7

Water your herb garden on a regular basis. Keep the soil moist but not oversaturated with water.

  8. Step 8

Occasionally mist your plants with water from a spray bottle to keep them healthy. Only do this during the early morning or evening hours - plants can die due to sunburn from excess water on their leaves.

  9. Step 9

Once you have followed these steps, you have successfully created your own indoor herb garden! All that is left is to maintain your indoor herb garden on a regular basis.
