Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Digital picture of yourself or image you want posted
- List of information you want posted on your profile
- url links you want to share
-
Step 1
facebook page with eHow link showing www.facebook.com* Determine what social networks you are interested in and how they work. To start, consider looking at: www.Facebook.com, www.MySpace.com, www.Linkedin.com, http://Digg.com/, http://Blip.fm/all, www.twitter.com, www.youtube.com, www.ecademy.com
There are many more sites to look at but start here to see what is going on around you. You can go on any search engine and enter social networking and see how many sites come up. It just takes practice so start navigating. -
Step 2
Twitter page http://twitter.com* Determine your goals and what you want out of the connection in cyber space and social media. Do you want to sell a product? Who would be your target market? How will you use the social media to get you where you want to go? If you are looking to promote your business and network with other businesses then go to a business site like Linkedin or ecademy. If you just want to have fun with family and friends try FaceBook or MySpace. If you would like to share music or record your own music and send songs to your friends or clients, try Blip.fm. If you want to learn things on the internet with links to news and education then start to follow on Twitter. If you want to watch videos or create videos to share with the world, try youtube. Contributing and participating in a mix of the sites will help you spread the word if you are selling anything.
-
Step 3
Business networking page for Linkedin www.linkedin.com* Sign up with the social media site to watch it and practice for awhile. You will need to have a digital picture of yourself or an image you want to present to the world. Select a name you want to be viewed as online and complete a password. Once that is done you create your profile description. This must be complete so people can see who you are and what you are about. If you are using social media in a job search the more information you have about your experience online the better off you will be. Chances are in today's job market if you are connected to several social media sites and had the same qualifications as another applicant, the company might hire you as most businesses are needing to venture out into social networking in their marketing mix. If you take the time to practice social networking and can share with others this might be the tipping point to get hired.
-
Step 4
Blip.fm for fun DJ activity http://blip.fm/all* Once you have determined which networks are the best for you, join in discussion groups which you can participate in. Having some knowledge of the group discussion is always good but you can learn by asking others in the group questions you have along the way. Most groups are happy to help you learn. Meeting people in discussion groups will help you meet and build more friends on all your social networking sites. Practice with the group and don't be afraid to let them know you are new to social networking.
-
Step 5
Youtube page www.youtube.com* Social networking is not hard. You just have to start and "Do it". Have respect for the group and don't over sell your product. Participate in the group and give of yourself. Social networking success depends on how much you participate and what quality information you are bringing or sharing with your network of cyber friends.
