Have you recently purchased a used vehicle only to discover when you got it home that the interior reeked of smoke? Read below for 4 steps on how to remove the smoke smell from your car.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by detailing and deep cleaning every rubber, plastic and/or leather surface in the vehicle. (I recommend using elbow grease, a sponge and diluted white vinegar.

  2. Step 2

Next steam clean the carpets and other cloth surfaces. When finished mist the entire interior with a smoke neutralizer such as Glade® Smoke Odor Neutralizer.

  3. Step 3

Smoke film can often accumulate on glass surfaces, after steam cleaning the interior, thoroughly wash all the interior windows down (again you can use diluted vinegar.)

  4. Step 4

Finally, change the cabin air filter. Cabin air filters help remove pollutants for the air before they enter the passenger compartment. If is recommended you change your air filter at least once a year. A dirty filter can significantly reduce air flow from your cabin vents.
