Prevent Ear Infections in Babies and Children
Prevent Ear Infections in Babies and Children

Is your child suffering from repeat ear infections? Do you want to avoid getting ear tube surgery (Myringotomy & Tympanostomy)?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Xclear Nasal Spray or Xylitol Gum
  1. Step 1
Prevent ear infections when baby is drinking.
Prevent ear infections when baby is drinking.

Make sure your child is not drinking lying down. Sit them up as much as possible to give them bottles or when they drink from sippy cups.

  2. Step 2
    Xylitol prevents ear infections.
    Xylitol prevents ear infections.

Xylitol has been shown to help prevent ear infections. You can use Xclear nasal spray each time their diaper is changed (Xclear is available at health stores); or you can have your older child chew gum sweetened with xylitol 5 times a day. They only need to chew until the flavor is gone.

  3. Step 3

If your child is old enough, teach them to pop their ears. It relieves the pressure and helps the fluid drain, drastically reducing the likelihood of ear infections.

  4. Step 4

You can use Similisan ear drops. They help relieve the pain and can help the ear infection go away faster.

  5. Step 5
No More Antibiotics, Preventing Ear Infections the Natural Way

Get the book "No More Antibiotics, Preventing Ear Infections the Natural Way" by Dr. Mary Ann Block. She has many great tips and a special massage technique which stimulates the lymph nodes and has saved so many children from surgery. There is a lot of detail on how food allergies can cause ear infections. The massage technique also works well to help with respiratory infections.

  6. Step 6

Sometimes chiropractic care can prevent ear infections. A difficult birth can cause misalignments which can lead to many different medical issues. Check with several different chiropractors to find one that has experience with children. If possible, chose a chiropractor who uses the Activator Method. The activator is a small tool that is used to make the alignments, it's painless and very quick.

Tips & Warnings
  • Children usually outgrow ear infections between ages 18 months and 3 years.
  • Ear infections are very painful! Provide your child with pain relief (ibuprofen, acetaminophen or topical relief).
  • I am not a physician nor am I in the medical field. This information is based on my extensive research on how to prevent ear infections in my own children.
