Paying tithes and offerings when you're broke can present a challenge. You may find yourself having an internal conflict/conversation as you stare at the checkbook in your lap. However, it's important to figure out how to be faithful paying your tithes and offerings despite the fact that you're broke. Learn how to make your tithes match your income before God makes your income match your tithes and offerings.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide that no matter what, you're going to be faithful and obedient through your tithes and offerings. If you don't have your mind made up that you'll pay your tithes no matter what, you definitely won't pay them when you're broke.

  2. Step 2

Pay God before you pay anyone else, including yourself. God asks for the first fruits, not the leftovers. If you wait to pay your tithes from what's left over, there won't be anything left over. But if you pay God off the top, he'll take care of the leftover bills and you won't need to worry about them. The money is His anyway so give what you owe.

  3. Step 3

Avoid worrying about being broke. In Matthew 6, the bible explains that we need not worry about what we'll eat, what we'll wear, and how we'll get by. If you worry about being broke, you'll be afraid to let go of the tithes and offerings that aren't even yours to begin with.

  4. Step 4

Write your check with a smile on your face and joy in your heart. Don't have a begrudging spirit when you pay your tithes. Being reluctant to pay tithes will make it less likely you'll pay them when there's less to go around. God loves a cheerful giver. Imagine how cheerful you'll be when he blesses you for your obedience.
