Step 1
First, they may have short legs, but are still a medium size dog. They usually weigh between 50 and 65 pounds.
-
Step 2
Second, after their most famous trait of a great sense of smell they are known for their bark. In their earlier days when they were still hunting dogs they bayed to let their owner know where the game was that they were after. They have managed to maintain this bark and tend to howl when they feel a sense of danger. They are also known to wine when they are bored or hungry. It is almost that your hound is talking to you.
-
Step 3
Third, Basset Hounds though very friendly can be very stubborn. Making them one of the more difficult breeds to train. Some tend to think of them as dumb because of the difficulty training them. Training a Basset Hound takes great skill and patience and many rewards.

Step 4
Lastly, if you want a friend and a constant companion buy yourself a Basset Hound. They are loyal loving animals that want to be a constant companion. Before you buy a Basset Hound check with Basset Rescues groups. They are a very tight network of people who watch out for the safety of their breed and perhaps you can save the life of a deserving Basset Hound.
