Step 1
INVITATIONS:
Attach tiny teddy bears to teddy bear shaped invitations. Ask the children to bring their favorite teddy to the party. (If they don't have one, any stuffed animal will do) -
Step 2
ATTIRE:
The children can wear "teddy bear hats" that they will make at the party. (see activity) -
Step 3
DECORATIONS:
Greet the children at the front door with a stuffed bear sitting in chair with a glass of lemonade at it's side and a children's book in his lap, while wearing sunglasses. The sillier the better!
Round up all the teddy bears you can find. Tie ribbons around their necks and helium balloons to their wrists. Set them around the room in peekaboo style (behind a rocking chair, peeking out from the curtains, etc.) or cluster a few together as a centerpiece. -
Step 4
GAMES/ACTIVITIES:
To make the teddy bear hats, provide several colors of construction paper or light poster board, stickers, markers, safety scissors, and glue. Help them cut out crowns or hats, one for each child and one for the teddy bear they brought to the party.
Play "pass the teddy": Divide the children into two teams. The first person in each line must put a teddy bear (the bigger the better) under his or her chin and pass it to the next person in line, who grabs it with his or her chin and so forth, until it gets to the end of the line. If the teddy is dropped, the team must start over. The first team to pass the teddy from the front of the line to the end of the line without dropping it wins.
Read aloud any stories associated with teddy bears, or have each child make up a short adventure story about their bear. -
Step 5
FOOD/DRINKS:
Provide a picnic style lunch in the backyard or serve bbq hot dogs, chili, and jello
Serve teddy bear cookies (made from sugar cookie dough)
If a birthday party, decorate the birthday cake with miniature teddy bears sitting with gifts in their laps (tiny wrapped sugar cubes)
