Knowing you to play electric will also help on the acoustic as well.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An electric guitar, probably a Fender
  • 1/4 inch guitar/bass cable
  • 8" speaker guitar amplifier
  • strings, buy at walmart to get the cheapest and best for your money
  • one month of practice
  1. Step 1

Plug in the electric guitar to the amp. (Stringing this guitar will be looked at in another howto). Make sure the amp is on the clean setting , with relatively low gain.

  2. Step 2

Play all six strings at a normal volume. Listen to see if you can get at least one string in tune. Then tune the other strings to that string.

  3. Step 3

Run through the FIVE BASIC CHORD FORMS. When I get a scanner, I will put these up. They are E, A, C, G, and D. Everything evolves around these chords.

  4. Step 4

Repeat for a month. If you are tempted to use high gain or distortion, that's ok. Learning clean first is the easiest way to learn songs off of the radio. And your parents won't yell at you as much. Unless there is a drummer around. /^^\

Tips & Warnings
  • Calluses are good! This means you are practicing enough
  • Drink Mountain Dew or coffee to keep your practice /jam sessions at high energy. Later, this will help when you perform in public. "You need jitters to let go of the jitters". It doesn't make sense, but it works. I think Billy Joel drinks coffee, and I know that guy from A Perfect Circle does. And Eric Klotz does. And Jon Weiss does. /^^\
  • If your knuckles are bleeding, your mom will think you are playing too hard. Run away from her at this point. j/k /^^\
