Step 1
Take a nap before you hit the road - This is a great way to help you wake up. Even if you just take a quick cat nap, it will help you stay alert more then if you do not take a nap. As little as 20 minutes can really work wonders!
Wash you car - Before you head out on the road, wash you car to increase your visibility. The easier it is to see out your windows the less likely you are to become tired. Simple, yet very true! -
Step 2
Do it the right way - no matter how much caffeine you have to stay awake, your body naturally will become tired and want to sleep each night more so around 2 a.m.. - 4 a.m.. This will make it harder for you to stay alert and safe when riving. So take a break from driving for awhile when you are feeling drowsy rather then drinking more caffeine. you can't go all night on no sleep no matter how hard you try!
Have a passenger - Whenever possible have someone take the long drive with you. Also ask them to stay awake with you and talk to help you stay awake and alert. You can also ask them to take turns sharing the driving. This helps you have more eyes on the road and this means you are less likely to have an accident. -
Step 3
Wear your sunglasses - During the day when the sun is up or setting to go down for the day, wear sunglasses. The more you strain to see, the more likely you are to become tired.
Listen to your favorite CD's - Listen to your favorite music to help you be more alert. When you listen to your favorite tunes you are likely to get into the music which helps you to stay awake and be more alert. -
Step 4
When you know you just have to take a break, listen to your body! Pull over and take a break instead of placing yourself and others at danger! More then 100,000 accidents happen every year because of drivers being tired and not as alert as they should be. Here are some signs you know it is time to take a break.
You can't focus
You can't remember the last few miles you have driven
You can't stop yawning
You keep swerving into the other lanes
You feel yourself exhausted
You feel your eyes closing
You are losing concentration
